Bring a picnic and setup for sunset. Anytime of day is beautiful as well. Short hike up from the lot. As the tale goes, this is a place of mysticism!
The Beech Hill side of this preserve has a wide path up that is is extremely accessible for families and provides a fantastic vista at the top. A great short walk for a day when you may have just an hour or two. The other side is a very woodsy trail full of poison ivy (wish I'd known THAT before we started). Totally different routes up to the same beautiful view at the top (yes, there is a porta-potty there). Highly recommend the first side for a great family activity very close to home. I would avoid the Woods Loop trail on the second side, as a parent.

Stretch your legs in Rockport, it is not too long a hike but you can add on and loop back to your car after you reach the top of the hill where there is the Beech Nut (hut) and a magnificent view of the ocean and surrounding hills and Chickawakee Lake. Lovely!
This is a neat and easy walk up a gravel road through an wild blueberry barren to an old stone hut. The views from the top of the hill are gorgeous and the stone hut is magical. Take a sunset picnic. About a half hour from Belfast.
The Beech Hill Preserve is a conservation property in Rockport, Maine. Its 295 acres include the summit of Beech Hill, one of the few bare-topped hills in the area. Its features include forested lower slopes, a commercial blueberry operation, and a 1913 Norwegian sod-roofed hut at the summit of the hill.
