Inner SE Portland - honestly the best. Most people get takeout, but there are a few sidewalk seats, and a few indoor seats.
They are known for perfect chicken and rice - I also really love the tofu, broccoli and peanut sauce. Also order liver on the side if you eat meat - it's so good. You can order online and pick up pretty quickly.
The chicken and rice come in a paper packet. Unwrap it, pour the ginger sauce over it, and eat it right off the paper. Don’t forget to ask for utensils!
They were a small food truck and have grown into this famous place - read the reviews on their website.

I love the braised chicken thigh in curry, and they are famous for their fried chicken, and they have a few veggie and vegan options. Definitely get an extra side of the pickles. The Pad Thai is regionally specific - the noodles come wrapped in an omelette, with heavy fish sauce. Some love it, some don't! Personally I get the braised chicken every time.

And then I had the cookie and everything became clear. They have smoked almond, salted caramel, and brown butter and chocolate chip cookies, plus espresso, plus veggies and produce displayed like they are solid gold.
This place has both a bakery/market and a restaurant - check out the restaurant when you're feeling fancy. Get the cookies when you're feeling anything/nothing at all.

You can walk around the river: walk up the Esplanade on the east side of the river, cross the steel bridge to the west side of the river, walk along the riverfront, and loop back to the eastside via the Hawthorne bridge.

About 1 hour 15 minutes south of Portland - but a really nice loop hike with multiple waterfalls. A good alternative to crowded Multnomah Falls.
There is a 7.2 mile trail with 10 waterfalls - look up the hikes on All Trails or https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=151.
And, Silver Falls is a historic town worth walking.

About 1 hour 15 minutes south of Portland - but a really nice loop hike with multiple waterfalls. A good alternative to crowded Multnomah Falls.
